CHARACTER
NAME: Draco Malfoy
CANON: Harry Potter (original series)
AGE: 16
CANON POINT: Halfway through Half Blood Prince, while recovering from the bathroom fight with Harry
HISTORY: https://www.pottermore.com/writing-by-jk-rowling/draco-malfoy Only about the top 1/3 applies (through "Even so, he could not free himself from his conditioning: he repeatedly refused the assistance of Severus Snape, because he was afraid that Snape would attempt to steal his ‘glory’.")
PERSONALITY:
On the surface, Draco started out as little more than a bully. In some ways, that's what he still is. He is also an entitled, arrogant, stuck up, rich, little wizard racist. He behaves as if he's some manner of royalty, and he really is the closest thing his world has, given his family's status and lineage. If you delve beneath the surface, he's still a bully. But deep down in the places he pretends don't exist, he's a sad, broken, lonely child.
The reason he's a bully is he's modelling himself completely after his father. He was raised as an only child of two pure blood parents, and was raised to believe that pure blooded wizards are the only ones who really matter, and those born to muggle (non-magic) parents are basically second class citizens. He was also brought up on notions like dark magic isn't bad at all, and things like money and power will get you much further in life than actually being nice to people. This was further enforced by his schoolmates, other children from other pureblood families that helped to enforce his views. He was also overly favored by the head of his house, which further added to his entitled, princely attitude. In following his father, he frequently has a haughty air of contempt toward anyone he believes as beneath him, which is anyone who isn't a pureblood, rich, Slytherin. Also like his father, he has a fascination for the dark arts and anything that gives him power and command over others. Whether it's asserting himself as an unofficial leader, or taking formal posts of power, it doesn't matter to him. He just needs to be in control.
One thing that acts against this cruel, bullying attitude is that he genuinely loves his family. For his father, it's more a sort of respect born out of fear, but he is willing to go to great lengths for the man. Through this, he finds out he could never be his father, due to one annoying stumbling block: a conscience. There is a vast difference between toying with dark spells, and outright murdering people. He has no stomach for the latter, and when he at last came up against that particular wall his world started to come down around him.
He is being taken from a point where these two things--the way he was raised and his new found conscience--are in great conflict. He is slowly breaking down as obligation forces him through things he does not want to do, and a lot of his previous behavior is starting to fall away as he's forced to decide what's most important in his life.
POWERS:
Magical Dueling: Using offensive and defensive magic in a fight against another wizard. Likely trained early by his parents, his power, skill, and ability to produce spells non-verbally make him incredibly adept at this.
Occlumency: The ability to clear one's mind and ward off anyone from reading his thoughts.
Potion making: Taking magical ingredients and turning them into powerful, magical concoctions. Not exactly a skill he can use until he gets his hands on very specific ingredients, many of which are not found outside the magical world.
Agility: The wizard sport of quiddich isn't exactly like non-magic sports and deals more with flying than running. While he is fit, he is not exactly strong. He is, however, very good at maneuvering.
Intelligence: He is said to be second in his class, only behind a girl with an intelligence that baffles even some of their teachers.

PLANS: While I could go on for pages on this, I'll keep it brief. His magic makes him quite skilled for a variety of tasks. Maybe not huge, grand battles where he needs to take on massive amounts of enemies, but in smaller fights he can be a great asset. That is, assuming his one personal item can be his wand. Creating distractions, getting through enemy defences, he's very versatile. Mostly. The dilemma is going to come down to that whole "blending in" thing. In that he really refuses to be anything but what he's been conditioned to be and anything not-wizard focused is to be sneered (plus he doesn't even understand a lot of it). So getting him to behave in that regard is going to be fun. Another fun aspect is going to be the jumping from one war to another, being ripped away from his family, his big epic assignment of murder. In generally, I'm super interested in some of the aspects of the general setup of the war--the side that's advocating peace is the bad guys, because of how they're doing it. Because it's all about perspective and everything.
CHARACTER @ID SUGGESTIONS: @Mustela @putorius (anything involving ferrets--scientific name "Mustela putorius furo") @badfaith (meaning of his last name) @blackdragon (if you want to be nice) @leatherpants (because wtf fandom) @deatheaterjr or anything nice or cruel you might want to do
HOW DID YOUR CHARACTER JOIN COST?
He doesn't remember. His initial joining would have been halfway between coercion and kidnapping. He would have never gone willingly, but it is in his best interest, plucking him up from fighting on the side who wants to control everything to fighting against it. It will do him some good in the end.

POWERS:
- Magic: He is a highly skilled and well trained wizard, capable of a great many spells. Some of them that are difficult for even adult wizards. A complete list of what spells he is capable of is sadly not possible, as canon never details everything he's been taught. It is known that he is incapable of Avada Kadavra (the Killing Curse), or producing even a simple patronus (a form of shield made of positive energy).
- The categories of magic he knows:
- Transfiguration (altering the appearance or form of an object into another)
- Charms (adding/changing properties to an object or creature)
- Defense Against the Dark Arts (identification and dealing with dark magic and creatures)
- Unforgivable curses (Supremely evil curses that not even all adults can perform): He can perform two: the Cruciatus Curse (intense pain to torture) and The Imperious Curse (complete control of the victim)
